Steve McGarrett comes to Hawaii to avenge his father's death but when the governor offers his own task force, he accepts. He picks up team members on the way, Danny Williams, the head detective on his father's case, Chin Ho Kelly, a former HPD Detective who was fired for accused corruption and McGarrett's father's old patrol partner, Kono Kalakaua, a Cadet at the Police Academy who's 1 week from graduating, Lori Weston entry to Five-O temporarily, how Catharine Rollins a girl friend of Steve and Captain Lou Grover, a former Chicago PD Head of SWAT. Hawaii doesn't have its own state police force but the Governor has set up a special task force, which becomes known as "Five-0", to investigate serious crimes on the islands. Reserve Naval officer Steve McGarrett heads the team with Danny Williams as his second in command and together they tackle a range of crimes with more far-reaching consequences than those dealt with by HPD, including terrorism and serious organized crime. It was great up until season 6 episode 10 when it just gets racist. A character is celebrating Hanukkah and goes up to the white lady with blond hair and talks smack. Kinda sick to see this going on, but right or left all of Hollywood is Jewish. It's funny because being part Jewish myself you just look at what's going on and shake your head. No one is fully Jewish, but we go around acting like when we're even slightly so we have to hate all white people and the other 80% of our genes. It's just ridiculous that everyone in this position feels the need to hate themselves and any person that considers themselves white. We're preaching about being anti racist while being the most racist people on the planet. This kinda of behavior is stupid and these shows are dumb for spreading the hate. I like this remake better than the previous attempt. It is a pleasant update to the original series. It's better in one respect than the original in that the police aren't out of touch with popular culture. the "Dragnet–Esq" original treated the younger generation / hippies like space aliens, something unknown and to be feared.

A navy seal turned cop makes for a good, young McGarret. It is nice back story for the too violent encounters on the show. A New Jersey fish out of water, single dad makes for a three dimensional Danno. Wacky caricatures, ever present eye candy and a steady stream of guest stars round out the cast.

The writers and /or directors of this show are out of touch. They are in desperate need of some technical advisers. This is why I consider the show an action comedy. 1. Not every arrest requires a SWAT team assault. 2. Not every cop and criminal are trained ninjas. 3. HPD officers are killed off more frequently that red shirts on Star Trek. 4. Any group that sees as much action as Five-0 would suffer serious psychological consequences. More of our soldiers are committing suicide than die in combat. 5. Two of the main cast members have committed murder. 6. You can't buy automatic weapons and explosives at a gun shop. 7. A gun found after six weeks under water won't fire or be able to fire underwater and kill someone. 8. If your character is restoring a car they should know something about them. Differential bearings aren't found under the hood. A manifold leak isn't a great mystery that needs to be pondered just replace the gaskets. 10. Too many weapons inaccuracies: A pump shotgun can't fire multiple times without reloading / pumping. Made up details about ammunition that doesn't exist and it's exaggerated effects.
